Can our group be taught privately?

Yes - WMT can run programmes at a date and place to suit your group. Please see the Private Programmes page for further information.

What prior training is required to come on a WMT course?

Only the course Far From Help Part 2/AMRFT Refresher requires another WMT course as a pre-requisite (any WMT programme or other non-WMT training might be accepted – please ask) otherwise you don’t even need prior first aid training to come on a course.

TOP

Do WMT courses meet NGB award standards?

Yes – WMT courses (not the doctor’s conferences) will satisfy the first aid certificate requirement for UK National Governing Body awards such as the Mountain Leader, BASI and British Canoe Union instructor awards. However, WMT courses are not HSE approved. All UK based Far From Help & Advanced Medicine courses include CPR/resuscitation training according to the latest guidelines.

TOP

How long are WMT courses valid for?

We would recommend a refresher programme at least every 3 years to keep abreast of changes in recommended medications and to refresh clinical such as putting up an i.v. drip and suturing.

Which course is most suitable for me? See What's on each course?

All UK based programmes are suitable for lay people and the Expedition Skills course will also interest doctors. WMT recommends Far From Help if you want to learn about injury/illness and using prescription medications. Attend Advanced Medicine for Remote Foreign Travel if you also want to learn about giving injections, suturing wounds and using intravenous fluids. Please contact WMT if you are still unsure of which course to attend. Both Chamonix conferences and the Morocco Mountain Medicine Expedition are suitable for doctors, nurses, paramedics and medical students.

Does WMT provide on-line travel related advice?

Generally no, but if it's a simple query we'll try to help or at least point you in the right direction. For a one-off fee or a retainer WMT can provide consultancy - travel advice, medical screening and medical kit advice - which might be of interest to commercial expeditions, travel companies, film crews and the like. See the Links page for travel medicine sites.
