Explorer Events

Who for? WMT has been running expedition medical training courses for "lay-people" (non-medics) since 1991 - far longer than anyone else in the UK. We now prefer the term explorer and this title applies to anyone venturing outside of the UK into remote areas where medical help is limited or non-existent and you/your team needs to be medically self sufficient. We train hundreds of people a year from many backgrounds including teachers, leaders, vehicle expeditions, field researchers. film crews/media people. solo travellers, military personnel and many more!

Training is available at 2 levels:

Foundation level: Far From Help (FFH) is a 2 day course that covers likely injury and illness conditions and includes the use of prescription drugs (antibiotics and pain killers). This is certainly not a basic course by any standard - it provides a solid, stand alone knowledge base which is also a good platform to carry on to WMT's next level of training (FFH 2/Advanced Refresher - see below).

Advanced level: Advanced Medicine for Remote Foreign Travel (AMRFT) is a 4 day course which combines the Far From Help syllabus with 2 further days of training in invasive techniques - using needles - to suture wounds, give injections and set up an intravenous drip.

Refresher training: On completion of Far From Help or the Advanced Medicine course, we offer the 2-day Far From Help Part 2/Advanced Refresher course to upgrade your training or refresh the invasive skills taught on the Advanced Medicine course.

In summary: Far From Help + Far From Help Part 2/Advanced Refresher = the Advanced Medicine (AMRFT) 4 day course syllabus.

Prerequisites? You do not need a medical background or even previous first aid training to attend Far From Help or Advanced Medicine. Our courses are intensive and fast paced.

Follow the links on the left and below for more details including the timetables for each course.

All courses include the use of prescription medications which our instructors authorise you to purchase for 3 years after the course .

BOOK NOW! All UK course prices (except FFH at Glenmore Lodge) include VAT at 17.5%.

Nurses, medical students and paramedics may benefit from these courses but they are not suitable for doctors.
